ACHIEVING THE VISION

The local vision of salmon recovery is to return self-sustaining salmonid runs to harvestable levels through the restoration of healthy rivers, marine shorelines, and natural processes, careful use of hatcheries, and responsible harvest. Achieving this vision will require active participation and support of local landowners, businesses, and the larger community.

Leadership for the WRIA 1 Salmon Recovery Program  and WRIA 1 Watershed Management Programs is under a unified decision-making structure governed by the WRIA 1 Watershed Management Board  The WRIA 1 Watershed Management Program covers watershed planning issues including water quality, water quantity, instream flows, and fish habitat.  More information about the integrated governance structure and the watershed planning program is available at wria1project.whatcomcounty.org
